Checking Into the Hospital

Since our due date came and went without the arrival of our little one. Abby and her doctor, Dr. Rachel Corbett, had a couple of long talks and decided that it was best to go ahead and try to induce Abby on the 19th if the baby wasn't here by then.
On Monday night we had dinner with Grandma Laurie. Grandma Laurie and I had burgers from 5 Guys since we didn't know how much food we would be have access to over the next couple of days. This was a good idea, and I am still full. Abby only had soup and salad because she didn't want a heavy stomach. This was not such a good idea because she didn't get to eat for about 24 hours. We gave Moose a treat ball so he wouldn't be too upset (he tends to throw up if he thinks we are leaving him for the night) and left him with Grandma Laurie and Grandma Debby, who had just gotten to the house from Phoenix.
We checked into the Sky Ridge Hospital at 7:30 p.m. We had to go through the emergency room since the rest of the hospital shuts down around that time. It was a little strange strolling into the emergency room while not having an emergency.
After checking in we were taken up to the Labor & Delivery floor where we met the nurse who would be taking care of Abby for the night and taken to our room. The room where we stayed Monday night was also the room where all the action was going to take place and it was HUGE. Abby had a very uncomfortable bed, while I got to sleep on some Frankenstein version of a futon--I've slept on worse things before, but my back has been stiff for 4 days now. The room even had a big bathroom with a jacuzzi tub.

Abby's bed was definitely not made for comfort. The nurse wanted to give her an Ambien so that she would get a good night sleep. Needless to say, Abby refused since she hates taking pills of any form and subsequently didn't sleep much.

The plan for Monday night was that they would give Abby something to get her to efface so that the baby would be lower and then start the induction in the morning. After hooking up Abby to a number of different machines, they gave her the effacing medicine, we watched Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone and then tried to get some sleep. We'll see how Tuesday goes...
