Molly Comes Home

After 3 days and 3 nights (since we checked in on Monday Night) at Sky Ridge, Molly and Abby were able to come on home on Thursday, January 21st. It was a little nerve racking to put Molly in her car seat for the first time. It helps that she is very flexible. She didn't like the car seat at first and fussed quite a bit (it didn't help that the first hat we tried to stick on her was way too big and covered her eyes), but then we discovered the magic of a pacifier at the suggestion of our RN Stephanie. About 10 seconds with the pacifier calmed her down and she ended up sleeping the whole way home.

It's only about a 5 minute drive from Sky Ridge to our house and my nightmare scenario of driving with her the first time in a blizzard didn't occur. When we pulled up to the house we discovered the stork sign that Grandma Debby had rented for Molly's arrival. The sign was quite huge and also included about a half dozen 2 feet tall baby bottles that went around the base. Molly liked the sign, but she was far more interested in the balloons when I tried to show them to her.

The Grandmas had also gotten and arranged what I am sure are the first of many roses for Molly Mac.

Of course coming home meant that Molly got to finally meet her fluffy puppy Moose (or as we like to call him, her big brother). We kept Molly in her car seat for the introduction since we weren't exactly sure how Moose would react. Some people know the story that we got Moose from a breeder in Alabama because they had a litter that was going to be able to come home right after we finished taking the Colorado bar. We had talked to the breeder about why we chose them so that they specifically knew the circumstances and the importance of the timing. About 1 week before the bar, the breeder called up and said that they would be shipping Moose via Continental Airlines the next day. Obviously this didn't work for us because with one week to go before the bar Abby and I could barely take care of ourselves. We decided to arrange for Moose to go to "Puppy Boot Camp" where he started to get crate trained and learned some basic commands. One great thing about Puppy Boot Camp was that it was in the home of a woman who had a toddler and an infant and Moose was around them as a little puppy. This gave us hope that everything would go well when Moose met Molly.
When we came in Moose was very excited and went and got a couple of his toys in his mouth. Once we set the car seat down Moose was curious and tried to look in, but eventually settled for smelling her feet. At first Moose didn't get too close and would back away when Molly made noises. Abby and I both thought that the introduction went well and Moose seemed very happy to finally understand where we had been the last few days. Once Molly was out of her car seat Moose went over and smelled it for a while trying to figure out what was going on.

So now that Molly and Abby are home we are going to keep riding this wild ride. Moose seems happy that he can still get on the couch and I am sure Abby and I will be going through lots of coffee.
